Adding rare earth metals, Y, Mn, Ca, Zn and other elements to improve the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys. By adding rare earth metals and Y elements in the alloy can effectively improve the corrosion resistance of magnesium alloys. Mn can remove the Fe and other heavy metal elements in the alloy to avoid the formation of harmful intergranular phase, so as to improve the anti-seawater corrosion of Mg-Al alloy. However, with the increase of Mn content, the alloy will appear brittle phase, the low alloy plasticity, therefore, Mn content is generally limited to 0.6% or less. Ca can reduce the micro-cell effect of magnesium alloy. Zn can also reduce the corrosion due to the presence of Fe.Ni.
