This silicon carbide UHMWPE composite panel bonds a hard SiC strike face to an energy-absorbing ultra-high-molecular-weight polyethylene backing. The structural composite design lets the ceramic front shatter and erode the incoming projectile while the polymer rear layer captures residual energy and catches fragments, significantly improving multi-hit performance over a monolithic ceramic of equal weight.
