Product Description
Magnesium Yttrium MgY30 MgY25 Master Alloy Ingot
Magnesium Yttrium (MgY) Master Alloy is a critical grain refining additive for high-performance magnesium casting. Engineered for aerospace, automotive, and defense industries, our MgY master alloy delivers exceptional castability improvement, creep resistance, and high-temperature mechanical properties. Available in MgY25 (25% Y) and MgY30 (30% Y) grades with tight compositional control and consistent batch quality.
Why Magnesium Yttrium Master Alloy?
- Superior Grain Refinement: Yttrium forms fine, thermally stable intermetallic dispersoids that pin grain boundaries during solidification, producing a uniform fine-grain microstructure
- Enhanced High-Temperature Performance: MgY-containing alloys (WE43, WE54) maintain mechanical strength up to 300°C, far exceeding conventional AZ/AM series alloys
- Improved Castability: Reduces hot tearing, shrinkage porosity, and microporosity in complex thin-wall castings
- Excellent Creep Resistance: Yttrium-rich precipitates impede dislocation movement at elevated temperatures, critical for powertrain and structural aerospace components
- Corrosion Resistance Enhancement: Yttrium addition shifts the corrosion potential noble, reducing galvanic corrosion susceptibility
Key Features
- Precise Compositional Control: Yttrium content controlled to ±1% tolerance with full chemical analysis certificate for every batch
- Low Impurity Levels: Iron (< 50 ppm), Nickel (< 20 ppm), Copper (< 100 ppm) to meet aerospace alloy specifications
- High Purity Raw Materials: 99.9% pure magnesium and 99.5% pure yttrium metal used as feedstock
- Homogeneous Microstructure: Vacuum induction melting ensures uniform distribution of MgY intermetallic phases throughout the ingot
- Easy Addition: Designed for direct addition to molten magnesium at 680-720°C with rapid dissolution (< 15 minutes)
- Argon-Protected Packaging: Each batch is sealed under argon atmosphere to prevent oxidation during storage and transit

Addition Guidelines
- Preheat MgY master alloy ingot to 150-200°C to remove surface moisture
- Add to molten magnesium base metal at 680-720°C under protective SF6/CO2 gas cover
- Stir gently for 2-3 minutes to accelerate dissolution
- Hold for 10-15 minutes to ensure complete homogenization
- Skim surface dross before pouring or transferring to casting station
- Typical addition rate: 5-20% of master alloy (to achieve 0.5-5% Y in final alloy)
Packaging & Storage
Each batch is vacuum-sealed in moisture-proof aluminum foil inner bags, packed in argon-protected sealed steel drums, and secured on export-grade fumigated wooden pallets. Standard packaging: 25 kg or 50 kg per drum. Store in a cool, dry environment below 30°C and away from moisture and incompatible materials. Shelf life: 12 months in original sealed packaging.
Quality Assurance
Every shipment includes a detailed Certificate of Analysis (COA) documenting Y content, trace impurity levels, and melting range. Our ISO 9001:2015 certified quality management system with in-house ICP-OES spectrometer ensures consistent alloy chemistry batch after batch. Third-party SGS testing available upon request.
